Wind farm technology has just taken a leap forward with the approval of a design for a futuristic floating “wall of wind turbines” called the Windcatcher. The innovative renewable energy infrastructure marvel, which is intended to be installed on the ocean, is the brainchild of Norwegian company Wind Catching Systems (WCS). The frame of turbines features a multitude of smaller 1MW units generating a combined capacity of around 40 MW. WCS claims the Windcatcher will be at least doubly as efficient as the stand-alone models, and they’re confident that their concept will make its way to reality.
