Advances in technology could play a central role in reducing casualties. More than 36,000 traffic fatalities were recorded in 2019 and 2018, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) figures. And COVID-19 lockdowns didn’t prevent that number from rising even higher in 2020, as NHTSA data shows a surprising uptick in traffic-related deaths during the first nine months of the year in comparison to 2019.
